Dominik Waitzer of DeSight Studio GmbH.
Tell us about yourself?
Dominik Waitzer is managing partner of the digital business accelerator “DeSight Studio” based in Munich.
Dominik discovered his love for eCommerce during his professional career, most notably as an international brand manager for the Asian eCommerce giant Rakuten, headquartered in Japan.
Dominik has been advising various companies and retailers throughout Europe for 13 years – either in his role as managing director or as a speaker at the Amazon FBA Days.
What do you think is the single biggest misconception people have when it comes to startups?
That every start-up becomes successful or establishes itself on the market within 12 months, just because the market volume is there.
In my opinion, most founders are not aware of how difficult it really is to be successful with a start-up in the LONG TERM.
If you could go back in time to any moment from your journey, and give yourself one tip, what would it be?
Trust the right people and above all your intuition – in addition to skills and abilities, it often depends on the right network and the right time.
What makes you stand out as an entrepreneur?
The fact that I have always swum against the tide and have never seen myself as part of the agency industry, but have nevertheless (or precisely because of this) been internationally successful.
What are some of the best working habits you’ve gained over the past couple of years?
– Excellent project management and the right preparation – A few hours with the right focus surpass countless hours with the wrong focus – Get things done!
Give us a bit of an insight into the influences behind the company?
DeSight Studio was founded about 12 years ago in Vienna, Austria and has been headquartered in Munich, Germany since 2015. DeSight describes the best qualities and traits of the two founders, Carolina Waitzer (CEO & Co-Founder) and Dominik Waitzer (CEO & Founder)
Where do you see your business in five years?
DeSight Studio is expected to become THE expert for expansion to Europe for American companies in the field of eCommerce in the next 5 years, covering a large niche where the need is always growing but the supply is not sufficient for this.
What do you think the biggest challenge will be for you in getting there?
The biggest challenge is to reconcile the two mentalities (USA and Europe) professionally as well as characteristically and to fulfill the expectation on both sides.
Talk to us about your biggest success story so far?
With DeSight Studio, we have acquired several lead agency assignments for which usually only large companies would be considered – yet we are able to maintain the average duration of our partnerships for at least 5 years in most cases.
How do clients and customers find you? Are you much of a salesperson for yourself?
According to our customers and partners, two characteristics particularly distinguish us:
We think while we work (which means: most agencies dully work off the tasks they receive – we create space for development and are a consulting body and executive body in one). The second characteristic is our dry and unvarnished honesty.
What one tip would you give to fellow startup founders?
Concentrate on what you can do and put your focus on that – no one who dances at multiple weddings will ever become truly successful.
And finally, what do you hope the future brings both you personally, and your business?
Personal and professional freedom that allows you to work on projects that you really enjoy and contribute to both professional and personal self-realization.
